Elyjoy's love for hiking began a long time ago, exploring Kenya's diverse landscapes from the Aberdares to Mount Kenya. After years of organizing informal hikes with friends, she recognized the need for a more structured, professional hiking community that didn't sacrifice the warmth and banter of hiking with friends.

In 2026, Boots & Banter was born with a simple mission: to make hiking accessible, safe, and incredibly fun. Elyjoy brings her extensive trail experience, safety certifications, and natural leadership to every expedition, ensuring each hiker feels welcome and supported.

The Mt. Kilimabongo trail offers a perfect blend of challenge and beauty. Starting from the base camp at 1,425m ASL, hikers ascend through lush forest, rocky terrain, and finally reach the summit at 2,145m ASL.

The 13km round trip takes approximately 3 hours, with stunning viewpoints along the way. The descent follows the same path while still offering new perspectives of the surrounding landscape.

Rated as moderate difficulty, this trail is perfect for both beginners looking for a challenge and experienced hikers seeking a beautiful day out.

Everything you need to know before joining us

What should I bring for a hike?
Bring sturdy hiking boots, water (2L minimum), snacks, a change of clothes(optional), sunscreen, and a positive attitude! We'll send a detailed checklist via WhatsApp.
How do I pay for a hike?
Payment is via M-PESA using Pochi la Biashara. Send KSH [Amount] to 0759344254. Once payment is confirmed, your spot is reserved. Kindly message me your name on whatsapp after paying.
How will I know the departure time and the pickup points?
Departure times and pickup points are communicated to the hikers in good time via our whatsapp community channel. We depart promptly at the designated time to ensure we have enough time to visit the destinations.
What happens if it rains?
A little rain won't stop us! However, if conditions are unsafe, we can always reschedule. Safety is always our priority. We'll communicate any changes via WhatsApp.
